Did you ever wonder how the Wake Forest athletic teams came to be called the "Demon Deacons?" They were once called the Fighting Baptists due to their association with the Baptist Convention. After an impressive win against the Duke Blue Devils in 1923, however, a newspaper reporter stated that the Fighting Baptists "fought like Demons." That gave rise to their current name, the Demon Deacons. Wake Forest has since continued to impress with eight national championships in four sports.
